CE 393C Experimental Methods in Cement Chemistry

This course is targeted at graduate students pursuing M.S. or Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering specializing in Materials. The course provides two functions: teaching students about the complexities of cement chemistry and introducing them to the common experimental techniques available for investigating the chemistry and microstructure of cement based materials. Students attend demonstrations of such tools as x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, isothermal calorimetry, and thermal gravimetric analysis, for example. The students then complete a small research project using the relevant tools.
