Hardware

The FE program counts with a state-of-the-art computer laboratory consisting of

  • SGI Altix 350 Cluster

  • An SGI Cluster (Five dual-processor Octane and two Indigo2 workstations).

  • One dual-processor, Xeon 2.4 GHz Linux workstation.

  • Thirteen Windows-based PC's (ranging from 1-3 GHz).

All of these components are connected to a local CISCO router and are protected behind a firewall. Our plan is to continue to expand the laboratory resources in the form of Linux based workstations connected together to enable parallel computations. In addition to the FE computer laboratory described above, we have access to two Linux Beowulf style clusters of PC's through direct cooperation with Professor Kamy Sepehrnoori. One of the Beowulf clusters consists of 12 Pentium 3, 1 GHz processors, and the second one comprises 8 Dual Xeon 3 GHz processors connected to a data network switch via 100Mb/sec interface cards.
